Six Steps to Inkjet Printing, Choosing Paper with Intention & Printing Demo

Are you making the best prints possible on your Canon or Epson inkjet printer? Do your prints look like what is being displayed on your monitor? Do you really feel like you have control over your printing workflow? Making beautiful, gallery/exhibition quality inkjet prints isn’t easy or intuitive. This class provides an overview of the six steps you need to consider when setting yourself up for success for selecting and making perfect inkjet prints. Recommended for photographers of all levels. All questions are welcome.

Topics covered include:
1. Recommendation on choosing the right monitor for editing still images for printing
2. Calibrating your monitor and why it is important
3. Choosing a paper that matches your unique artistic signature (discussion of various papers available and how to choose a paper that is right for you.
4. How to select the right printer for your needs
5. The importance of using custom printer/paper profiles
6. Discussion of and recommendations for the quality of lighting conditions when viewing and evaluating your photographs


Printing Demonstration (2 hours):
Using both a Canon imagePrograf Pro-1000 and Epson Surecolor P900 archival inkjet printers, Eric will perform a printing demonstration instructing participants in best practices and how to achieve predictable, reliable, consistent, controllable and repeatable results.
A limited number of participant's images will be printed on various papers, showing just how important paper selection is. Select papers from the following brands will be available:
Arista-II, Awagami, Canson-Infinity, Canon, Epson, Hahnemühle, Ilford and Moab

To have a chance at being one of the lucky participants to have an image printed:
Bring a USB thumb drive with a few images on it. (Not 10, not 100, not 1000.) We don’t want to spend time sorting through image files. Images can be color or black & white. Files need to be formatted with the following parameters:
Color Space = Adobe RGB (1998)
Size = 9.4 inches on the long side at 300 ppi
Bit Depth = If the file was originally a RAW file maintain 16 bit depth
File format = TIF
